Guildford Ice Dance Club

A recreational ice dance club at Guildford Spectrum
Meets certain Tuesdays (mostly every other week).

About GIDC

We meet at Guildford Spectrum Ice Rink on Tuesday evenings 7.30pm-8.30pm

This uninterrupted hour features social dancing of mixed standards from Preliminary Foxtrot to Paso Doble.

In the summer months, we have a few additional one and a half hour session on Sunday mornings. Check our Facebook page for further information.

On Tuesday evenings, Dance Club is followed by a General Skating session, featuring, from 8.45pm-9.15pm, an optional class for just £4 extra, by James Lewis, one of our resident dance coaches.

The Club was formed in 1993 and we held our first Dance Club session on Sunday 21st February in that year, two days before the Spectrum Centre officially opened to the public. Our social dance event that day was supported by skaters from all the existing local rinks, and by others from more distant regions.

Our annual subscription (renewable on 1 April) is £15 for Full members, £5 for Associates (Associates do not take part in our weekly Dance Club sessions, but are interested in supporting the club)

Our Tuesday evening dance hour costs £6 for members and £10 for guests, including the public session afterwards, payable the Spectrum’s reception. Prospective guests must sign our visitors’ book on the side of the rink (normally with Liz) for insurance purposes and are welcome to join us up to a maximum of six times a year, without becoming members.

Tuesday Lessons

Every Tuesday evening, for the first 30 minutes of the public session (8.45pm - 9.15pm) James leads an accessible edge class, open to all, aimed at helping grow skaters into ice dancers. Anyone is welcome, Skate UK level 8 or above is recommended.

Lessons cost just £4 cash paid afterwards to a club committee member, so just turn up and enjoy.

Week 1 - Junior - For lower level skaters to learn basic dances and some partnering. Focusing on the basic steps - run, cross roll, cross over/cross behind.

Week 2 - Edge - Limber up with the the early level Field Moves - swings, cross rolls, slaloms, turns and mohawks.

Week 3 - Intermediate/Senior - A chance to try out the Intermediate Dances such as the Swing Dance and Foxtrot or get to grips with some Senior Dances - the Blues, Tango or Silver Samba.
